iPhone Stock Status: July 1 – California Sell Outs

A quick sweep of the Apple iPhone stock inventory check page shows that about 50% of the California stores are out-of-stock and sold out. The rest of the country including all of New York is reporting ALL GREEN/ALL IN STOCK.

The toughest is the SF Bay Area, out of the 9 stores, only the Pleasanton Stoneridge Mall & the Santa Rosa stores have stock. The SF Penisula is completely out of stock and either of these two stores with stock are a good hour+ drive … though on a Sunday morning, it’s not too bad. My guess is that the malls open at 11:00 AM so good luck. (one of the San Jose stores is stocked if you live closer to the South Bay).

The LA situation seems to be better in that while half the stores are sold out, there seems to be another within 20-25 minutes* – for instance, while Manhatten Beach is sold out, Santa Monica is still reporting stock.

* Of course, it it were Monday, the 20-25 minute drivetime thing wouldn’t apply.

You can still buy online and from the 1-800-MY-APPLE number.

My online order status hasn’t changed but I presumed nothing would change on Saturday. This line was included in my confirmation email:

“You will also be receiving an email with more precise shipping and delivery dates for your iPhone order by July 4th.”

JULY 2nd Update here.

  • Actually, I bet most of the LA stores are now out of stock. I went to the Santa Monica store this morning and while they technically had iPhones in stock, they only had 10. Those were literally sold by 9:03. Given that Santa Monica is a major apple store, i bet they had a relatively good supply so I bet if they are out, most other LA places are too.

  • The Tulsa Apple Store’s opening was a smashing success. 300+ people in a big snaking line.

I went to a local AT&T store for my 8Gb purchase. We had 74 people in line at opening time. The store employees were AWESOME! through the whole thing. Went back the next morning and they’d sold a phone to everyone who wanted one and only had ten 4Gb iPhones left.

Apple’s just made an INCREDIBLE cash-laden launch. So cool!

  • my friends in Washington, DC just drove to the Clarendon, VA store on Friday, and walked right in. no lines and plenty stock, bought their phones and went home happy. I was surprised not enough people from DC area went to that store because it’s easy to get to and possibly the best on in that area.

so far i am still happy with my BB Curve, i guess it’s hard for me to judge w/o actually playing with an iphone =) it sure looks cool though~

  • yeah.. i will be buying the iphone. ive read the review in deatail. it will be my best buy this year.

  • That’s pretty impressive – maybe says something about the distribution of Apple’s market base.

What I’m curious to learn is how online sales have been – I should imagine Apple should have been able to cater pretty well for online purchases?

(METROXING: Seems the system has been up & running pretty smoothly (so Apple had all the bases covered). Analysts have guessed the stores sold about 600,000 through Sunday, I would guess that the online store pushed that past 1 million but no definite numbes just yet).
