Mattel Disney Pixar CARS: We Grow ‘Em Big in El Segundo

If you like your Pixar CARS flying objects large – boy are you in luck … of course, Big Barney Stormin’ is appearing or soon appearing on your shelf (apparently they were thinking about releasing with a rubber band flying feature but some lawyer managed to take the eye out of another lawyer … OH MY EYE! MY EYE! … so you know how that goes πŸ˜‰Β  )

But coming at the beginning of September, are a slew of other CARS flying objects in giant scale including:

AL OFT THE BLIMP

MARCO THE JET

Joining the current and out giant Lightning Storm McQ & the Dinoco Helicopter.

Though the scale of the giantism Mattel CARS don’t seem to follow any real scale so we’ll see if Al Oft or Marco can be displayed with the 1:55 CARS.

There is one curiosity listed among what’s coming – “Mack the Cab.”

Does this mean, they will release a giant Mack (just the front portion?) – it seems to have a different code number than other current Mack’s that are out but it means very little … but it seems likely we’ll get a giant front cab Mack with lights & sounds like the other giantism releases.

Disney Pixar CARS: Disney Licensing – Busy

Another photo blog post since I’m out and about …

Treasure Hunt Caged Death Match … How do they sell anything like this?

I think you can pretty much live your life 100% CARS …

I guess, next year the armbands will be WORLD OF CARS?

There is practically no aisle of Walgreen’s without something CARS …

Fortunately, there is no McQueen CARS licensing for these next two products but I like to take a look at the $.99 Store to see what new marketing product was a FAIL and had to be quietly sold off at $.99 or 2 for $.99 but I couldn’t resist this photo … I think if you’re paying $.99 for the thing on the left of the shelf, you might as well pay $.99 for the “test” on the right at the same time because you’re gonna need it …

Yes, these were really shelved next to each other and yes, only $.99 – I’m sure your ‘partner’ will appreciate you buying the best … well, the best the $.99 Only store has to offer … Um, Happy Father’s Day?!

San Diego Comic Con: 5-Day Ticket SOLD OUT

Okay, no one panic 😯

There are plenty of 1-day tickets still available, the only ticket to sell out are the 5-day tickets which also allows you in Wednesday night for PREVIEW NIGHT (which runs 3 hours).

Yes, that allows you to buy and jump the gun a little earlier than most but don’t panic.

(SD Comic Con doesn’t count Wednesday Preview Night as a “day” so they call the 5-day ticket a4-day ticket).

For CARS, the show runs a total of 38 hours and there are 5,000 sets of LS McQueen (Mattel will have to average 131 units sold every hour on the hour to sell out … and I predict they will but they’re not going to sell out in the 3 hours of Preview Night so no one panic. Most important, no needless eBay clicking – at least not yet.

Our preview post of Lightning Storm McQueen is here along with a list being managed by some nice friends of 2ADay who are making arrangements to buy and ship it to you.

We hope to get an update on how many come in a case so you can plan if you need a cart, a sherpa or a donkey.

Eventually, we will get around to doing a post on all the exclusives at the SD show but so far, we also have some mighty nice Mighty Muggs to show you – scroll down to the bottom.

If you live in the San Diego area and are on a tighter budget, you can also consider volunteering three hours of your time and you get in that day for free.

There is only online registration so plan ahead if you think you might want to go … and now, of course, you have to decide on a specific day of days. Good luck! See ya there!

Disney Pixar CARS: Peterson Museum CARS Exhibit Photos

When in LA, you can also check out the Pixar CARS Exhibit at the Petersen Auto Museum … “remclsydney” was kind enough to send us pics of his recent visit to LA and the exhibit …

Too bad, you can’t pick up one of these in the gift shop. Though the airline might just charge you more than $15 to carry this on your flight home πŸ™‚

I think there are a couple “extra” stickers on McQueen!

Just make sure you visit Disneyland and the museum on different days … don’t want to confuse the kids πŸ™‚

Original Press Release & Post.

Follow-up Post with Directions & Other Places of Interest.

And of course, if you just want to Photoshop eyes on your CAR or build your own McQueen – check out this post. I expect pictures of your Chevy Malibu changed into McQueen! ;- )

Thanks again, “remclsydney.”

Mattel Disney Pixar CARS: Movie Moments- What’s Going On?

multi.jpg

Movie Moments – so, what’s going on? Lots of rumors floating around – retail employees are saying this & that. The new ones disappear in an instant so clearly it’s not disinterest in buying 2-packs … but let’s backtrack a bit …

Mattel certainly started off on the right track – the first Movie Moments made sense from a lot of viewpoints:

Flo & Ramone: Flo is a girl plus with extra tail-fin metal (not judging, not judging! πŸ˜‰ ) so it makes sense to charge a bit more for the two-pack.

Red & Stanley – of course, Red is about 3-4 times the metal of any other CAR, coupling it with Stanley makes sense from an economic view-point.

Boost & Snot Rod – the less interesting of the tuners. Wingo & DJ were singles so why not make a bit fewer of the other two but charge a skoosh more because the completists will want all the tuners.

Guido, Luigi & the Tractor – again, a nice value in two small CARS plus the Tractor.

backmm01.jpg

This first wave, no one can fault any of them and were eagerly snapped up – but eventually, the problem became not the CARS but the way they were packed in each case – with too many repeats or for instance, after Boost & Snot Rod became single CARS, the MM version should’ve been retired.

Or that it was great fun to see the Pixar parody CARS at first but clearly there was a limit to how many of us were interested and while on one hand, Mattel is to be commended for keeping them available – can you imagine the grief they would’ve had if they retired them – thus denying a two-year the Sully CAR or the Buzz CAR? πŸ˜‰ But on the other hand, by not keeping more careful track of retail stock and continually repeating less than necessary MM’s packs like Crusin’ McQueen & Sally as a WOC version (or perhaps even worse, packing two in the first case?!) – the perception to retailers was that we weren’t interested when we are – but only in CARS or configurations we don’t already have … and of course, to retailers it’s all just a MM whether it’s Sally/Crusin’ McQ or Red Mia & Tia so they are only measuring by overall stock turnover and in many if not most cases, the perception is that MM’s are selling slowly … but if you’re talking about any (real & actual) NEW MM’s – they fly off the shelves. What is the shelf life of Gaspirin/Tow Cap or Flea & PT Flik … that is IF they make it onto the shelves?

So, what’s next for Movie Moments – we seem to have sporadic reports from WM managers & stockers who seem to think they are being discontinued. For some reason, people find some of their market intelligence … er, less than credible? πŸ™‚

It would appear that they are NOT being discontinued.

To repeat – there is no sign from all other channels and sources.

The Movie Moments portion of CARS is NOT being discontinued.

Now, does that mean WM or another retailer might stop carrying them? Maybe. You also have to understand the bigger issue – to them CARS is a 2-year old line and to their buyers and merchandisers, they were breaking up with their high school sweetheart after the prom that June 2006, and can’t remember back that far … okay, kidding but not too far off from the truth πŸ™‚ … their job is to make the stores look hip & cool – otherwise (and shh, don’t tell anyone), there are just a giant square store selling toothpaste, insecticide & hair dryers … so tie-ins to blockbuster movies makes them look hip & cool and as I’ve noted before, their confused that 2 years later, we’re still buying CARS stuff. So, in some ways, it’s a miracle that CARS got that much shelf & peg space to now … So, what’s next?

Movie Moments might become a retailer exclusive – Toy R Us seems the most interested in CARS exclusives so maybe Movie Moments will only be available there?

Hopefully, they’ll be packed a little better … new kids & mom/dads buying for their kid that just turned 2 might be excited to see Buzz & Woody if it only shows up in July & November? Then it’s like a treasure hunt … and conversely, when you see the same CARS on the shelf time & time again, you’re actually less reluctant to snap it up because you think – it was here a month ago – it’ll be here next month.

So, what’s next?, will future shipments get re-configured much like the Gift 3-Packs? No definite word yet …

For people who just want opener CARS from Movie Moments, there’s clearly enough of the older ones still on the shelves and the more recent Movie Moments will certainly be available again.

For collectors and completists, yes, the big question is whether the next shipments might only be stickered with “TRU exclusive.” I highly doubt any switch-over is going to happen in the next month – at the earliest, probably late summer or September … but of course, there is no definite word – surprise! πŸ™‚

Here again is what’s been announced … and hopefully, we’ll know more soon.

Mattel Disney Pixar CARS: Speedway Set Conspiracy Theorists Unite

Mattel seems to jumping on the gun on the website.

For SECOND-CLASS citizens, you know the first level Hot Wheels Collector Club members, they have already pre-announced the Motor Speedway of the South for you is a sell out.

For Red Line Club Members, it merely announces the date it will go on sale, the 20th of May.

Don’t panic – just sloppy web housekeeping.

Here is a screenshot from a few minutes ago (today is May 18, 2008).

So, nice job of not only causing undue panic but playing into the hands of the er, few, many, millions who think you … well, don’t think too much about us …

Of course, this also might mean you don’t really have a handle on how this whole HTML, web thing works when someone somewhere either can’t code in the words UNAVAILABLE YET or you have already pre-loaded the page for Tuesday presuming they’ll have to load the page anyway after a couple hours of the Motor Speedway going on sale … perhaps not really boding well for Tuesday morning when a few, many, thousands, might be attempting to login and buy all at once.

So, panic now or panic later?

We might want to keep this info handy:

Red Line Club Customer Service:

1-800-858-0102, Monday-Friday
7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Central Time

So, good luck all and hope we survive all this with dignity, decorum and calm … or is is too late for that already?

(Please note, I could’ve been a total bas**** and titled this post – MOTOR SPEEDWAY OF THE SOUTH – SOLD OUT! but then I didn’t want to cause a pre-riot before the real riot on Tuesday …)

So, again, NOT sold out – just a jumping of the gun of web design …

Mattel Disney Pixar CARS: Motor Speedway of the South – Back of the Box Photos

Detailed look at the back of the box – no real surprises except it is SPARE MINT and not Spare-O-Mint or Spare Tire Mint …

Other than that … now we wait …

Thanks again “Steve.”

Mattel Disney Pixar CARS: Motor Speedway of the South – Or Buy This …

Ultimately, that’s something you have to decide for yourself.

It’s limited, it’s nice looking and you get to have CARS before anyone else (other than about 1,100 other people in this world) in a nice box … can you logically argue for and against buying this set? Of course.

It’s certainly not “cheap” by most measures at $300+ … but it’s not unheard of … want the Sideshow Toys PREMIUM Indiana Jones figure? $280 clams + shipping.

Or the Aliens Power Loader (sold out) also from Sideshow Toys – $249

Plus $139 for the Alien …

Or you don’t have to go far, HWC has been selling this set with display case for $199 + shipping since last October …

Of course, there are plenty of things you can buy outside of toys for $200-$300 … how about a Louis Vutton hair band?

Is this also known as a scrunchie? This Louis Vuitton version is $335 BTW.

Of course, you can also spend money and not have a lot to show for it …

Parking in a bus zone in SF? $250

Fine for parking in a Bus Zone
Violators are subject to a fine of $250. Parking in a bus zone is a hazard to passengers attempting to board or exit a bus and may prevent disabled individuals from boarding.”

The Digg story of the guy who spent $300 for an email address?

You can buy an HDMI cable for your TV – $374 … oh sorry, $373.99.

Or 6 Your Love Makes My Heart Blossom figurines – only $50 each. They are so gosh darn cute!

cruzincoolerwithtrailer.jpg

If this global warming thing is true – time to step up and motorize your cooler for double duty … now in electric versions! Your teenage kids will love a ride in this to school. A little spendier at $399 plus $100 for the cooler trailer.

Are you like most people who think – this is the 21st century – why am I living like a barbarian of the neolithic age and still have to pour my own cereal? Yes, civilization has finally advanced … finally, battery powered cereal dispensing … and as they note, “ it looks great too!”

WAIT, there’s more! “Because the unit is automatic, there are no dials or cranks to be twisted or to crush the cereal. Just press a bowl against the dispensing mechanism and
out comes the cereal.”

FINALLY! Yea, the last unit I got, the squirrel fell down into the crank and I not only got crushed cereal but crushed squirrel flakes.

So, my friends – spend your money wisely or poorly …

Mattel Disney Pixar CARS: The Countdown to Motor Speedway of the South Has Begun!

Yep, it’s real and it’s almost here.

Clear your calendar and your credit cards.

Make sure your broadband bill is paid and you have a backup generator come May 20, 2008.

Make sure the cat or dog hasn’t frayed your keyboard USB connector.

West Coasters like me will have to have our caffeine injected and ready to start typing and clicking by 9 AM … but East Coasters can meander in at noon.

Briefly, the price is $299.00 (+ 12.95 S&H).

Limited to 1,000.

Yes, you need a membership in the Red Line Club ($24.95+shipping) and GET THAT TAKEN CARE OF before May 20, 2008 – you want avoid any problems.

You must FIRST sign up for the Hot Wheels Club (free) – then click on SHOP.

Yes, you can only buy ONE per RLC membership …

… But you can buy FIVE RLC memberships at the SAME MAILING ADDRESS!

BUT you will need 5 emails addresses and you have to log off before logging back on.

Any other questions, we think we pretty much answered any questions you might have in our earlier posts – here, here & here.

(Whoa, we started talking about these 6 months ago?!)

Good luck one and all and may the best 1,000 of us get as may as we want, need, desire and crave πŸ™‚

For those of you who plan on opening their set, may you live to be a thousand and be blessed with harmony, wisdom, beauty and a Red Ransberg … for those who just intend to rush onto eBay, may your mouse click and return key stop functioning πŸ™‚ … BTW, RLC items are NOT allowed to be pre-sold on eBay so you can report any sellers who pre-list and pre-sell the set starting today or until it is actually IN HAND. At that point, Mattel no longer restricts (re)selling a RLC item …

After you sign up, you can read more details about the set HERE … (there is a typo in Mattel’s list – Gask-It is #80, not the third #84)

Our first un-boxing photos are HERE.

If you’d like to send us yours when you get the set and open it – be sure and email them to us or send us a link!

For those of you are undecided on whether to buy, it’s $8.30 a CAR not including S&H, quite a bit of inflation from the last exclusive Red Line box set of $5.51 a CAR.

For those keeping track, here are the Piston Cup CARS out:

Lightning McQueen
Chick Hicks
Dale Jr.*
Gasprin
The King
Leak Less
Nitrorade
No Stall
RPM
Octane Gain
Tow Cap
Vinyl Toupee

NOTE – the Speedway set Dale Jr. is a variant.

Shiny Wax #82 & Sparemint #93 are announced as 3-packs plus we have seen Trunk Fresh #34 as a launcher so 14 (if you’re a variant collector) or 15 of the 36 CARS are available or will soon be available in other packs … as people have asked, does it mean every Piston Cup Race CAR will be released in some form or another … Probably, possibly, maybe … yes, likely but will they all be available in 2008? Highly unlikely but anything is possible. Yes, that’s no answer but that’s the Mattel answer.

It seems that Mattel is aiming to use the single cards to sell the highest visibility CARS and CARS that are the most interesting looking might get a solo card release – so I imagine that some of the Piston Cup CARS might get solo card releases like Tac-o-Mint, Mac iCar (Mattel is calling it the Apple Car) and a few others but some are frankly not all are that visually exciting (of course, to us, we’ll take anything) so most will make appearances as 3-packs with their crew chief and Movie Moments (okay, the Apple CAR is more likely to be a Movie Moment packed with Mike or something …) but does that mean everything will come out at some point – that’s probably the plan but will it be 100% certain? No … There is no way of telling ,,, just as most guesses were on the lower end scale of $249 and not $299 … so anything, everything and nothing is possible, impossible or probable … the bottom line is Mattel doesn’t even know … but they would never admit that πŸ˜‰

So, now we know pricing – you in? You out? You want to vent?

ADDED THOUGHTS BASED ON COMMENTS: The Motor Speedway is its own unique entity. We already can see that in addition toΒ  a couple three packs announced (Shiny Wax, SpareMint), there is also a photo pointed out by reader “Jeff” from HK that a four pack of LM, King, Chick & Re-volting ($15.99? $19.99?) is ready to go … so it certainly appears that the CARS themselves are as “exclusive” as the WM CARS were “exclusives.” They are exclusive unique to this packaging, time, pricing and place (in other words, Mattel is the date who loves you forever until the Sun comes up and hey, it’s another forever πŸ˜‰ ) … buying this set assures you of having 25 (including Dale Jr variant) Piston Cup racers in your hands in a couple weeks (plus the ones you already own). The bottom line is whether that is worth $300+ to you.Β  Just be aware that in a month’s time, only 22 might left unique and that still leaves us with Toyfair announcements and the holidays where last year we saw some 20+ CARS released between summer and the end of the year so while it’s unlikely we will see all of them but maybe 8 more Piston Cup racers? So, eventually, all might be re-released but does that detract from the set itself? That is your call. The short term future of this line can be predicted but a year from now, who knows. So, $300+ guarantees the Piston Cup racers in hand in two weeks, after that, Mattel might flirt, tease, disappoint you, cause you grief or make you wonder what you ever saw … πŸ™‚ but hey, Mattel never said they were a cheap date … at least you’ll always have May 20, 2008 …
