Now with all the talk of Boosts Paint color I am certain that RPM has a paint color variant. I saw tons of them in both schemes. Subtle yet there.
The one I have is sublte and hard to photgraph. I did not buy the ones I saw inthe store that showed a more stark contrast. Perhaps I’ll try again…

(METROXING: Maybe later this week, I’ll have a chance to dig out all my boxes – I’ll take a look and let you know if I have anything).

  2. claeface73

I think that they better start sending out some new cars quick or we’re going to start losing it and start comparing color schemes on cars…oh wait…never mind!

(METROXING: Too late for some of us, save yourself! 🙂 )

There is another major difference with Sally. The carded 12 back Sally made in China has tail lights higher on the back (above the license plate). The Sally made in Thailand from the Crusing Night package has tail lights that are lower on the back (in line with the license plate)

(METROXING: That’s interesting, you have a photo? My open Sally is from Thailand and any other Sally’s I have are still sealed so it’s not very obvious through a blister to see – thanks).

  5. CaseStalker

Ohh yeah and regarding Sally the other difference was that the Porche emblem was originally bigger and then samller on SC if I’m not mistaken. BTW how do you take such great pictures of your cars?

(METROXING: A photo box setup helps – something like this (this is not the one I have) and I prefer a white background – easier to Photoshop out the background … of course, if you’re handy – you can easily build one yourself – all you need is a white box and light sources coming from different angles to reduce shadows and also something to deflect the light a little to eliminate hot spots).

  6. CaseStalker

OK People! Here is my RPM Proof. Since I am claiming this discovery I am naming the variations: “Sober RPM” his eyes are white and clear and “Hazy RPM” with the yellow overcast!

First notice the how white RPM’s eyes are on the right and yellow on the left:

Next notice how the #64 is so much whiter and even the RPM logo is a brighter blue. It appears that they accidentally mixed yellow into their clear coat on a batch of RPM’s

Then go look at my cool website….mikeshaw.com

(METROXNG: Yea, those are definitely different. Lisa confirms it. If anyone has more info about which RPM (WOC?), I’ll add that to the list … okay to use your photo? Of course, I’ll credit you for the find. I’ll try and pull down my collection this weekend to look also … Thanks. CaseStalker, I made a small edit in your comment, hope you understand 🙂 )

  7. Lisa

    @casestalker

you are correct about rpm. after i saw your post i purchase 2 at wm b/c the paint was definitely different. i compared them to my son’s and all three were different colors of paint. happy car hunting everyone!

  8. CaseStalker

Glad I could be of help! Very difficult to photograph though!
(BTW Metrox no biggie on the edit) to everyone else let’s just say I had another name for Mr Hazy RPM 🙂

(METROXING: I looked at the Leak Less I have – most all on cards and the launcher but all look essentially white – certainly not to the extent of your example … where did you say you found your yellowing Leak Less and you’re saying that the ones on your stores shelves (WOC?) are also yellowy? I know Leak Less is coming or is out on WOC so I’ll have to check – can’t imagine there will be a run on them 🙂 )

  9. CaseStalker

Sorry to double post but not only is it hard to photograph the computer screens diminish the contrast as well. In real life you can see the difference much better.

Any word on the Sally Porche logos?

speaking of comparing color schemes, (new cars, come soon please!) the colors of the piston cup group are really nice with the blue and yellow contrast, on Charlie, Tow, Tom. Figured out the Dinoco Oil logo and Piston Cup color scheme/name was a parody of Sinclair OIL ‘s dinosaur logo, and name of Dinoco was a play on Sunoco Oil (NASCAR racing fuel since 04.) as well as Sunoco’s bright blue and yellow logo. I am sure this is mentioned elsewhere and not new, but it only really stood out to me once all the cars were in my hands.

  11. towdj

I have a Piston Cup Tow in a DJ Box…the front name plate is Tow

  12. julian

i picked up dirt track mcqueen in toys r us in uk, only one side has the dirt paint on it(didnt realise untill my 8 yr old opened it.

  13. stav771

We purchased a leakless for my son and only recently realised it has no moustache. Is this rare or just a bad batch

(METROXING: Error in production. If opened, not much value …).

  14. CaseStalker

to answer METROXING I think your question above regarding leak less is supposed to be about RPM? I found the Hazy RPM’s in Target and Walmart and not just once they were there several times but only on the WOC card from what I recall. The WOC card had both “versions” but I think the SC was all “Sober”.

(METROXING: Okay, I guess this weekend is clean out my toy/diecast closet …)

  15. MarkUK

I bought another Lizzie today. I was planning on using her for a conversion but on examination I realised that although her eyes have been placed correctly, her windscreen is upside down. Is it worth holding onto her or should I carry on and modify her as planned?

(METROXING: If you haven’t opened it, somebody might give you something extra for it on eBay though I have a feeling most of the error buyers are in the US so shipping might kill the deal …).

  16. MarkUK

Unfortunately I didn’t spot the error until after I’d opened it. It wasn’t very obvious.

(METROXING: Well, there’s £2 profit down the drain 🙂 …)

  17. joshua richardson

    Hi,

my name is joshua, i am 5 years old.

my KORI TURBOWITZ does not have side wing mirrors but the case shows that it does. also the picture on the back of the card has these mirrors. is this an error or do all KORI TURBOWITZ have no mirros?

    thanks

    joshua

(METROXING: Yea, the pictures shows what it should look like but Mattel decided to save some money. There is another Kori coming out on in the next few months, it will be interesting to see if Mattel adds the mirrors back on. Good catch! Welcome to collecting CARS, Joshua, good luck!)

  18. Will

I found a Dinoco Lightning McQueen and a Bling Bling Lightning McQueen where the front of the cars are tilted up within the cards (due to the plastic inserts). Other ones in the store were level/flat inside the cards. Are these two packaging errors? Thanks.

(METROXING: Well, if the two you cite/saw are the only two and a couple dozen more (if they exist), then it’s just a error in assembling the ‘correct’ insert but who knows, Mattel might’ve decided to make a change – just as Ramone & Flo (and other MM sets) are inserted in as in a “conga line” or face to face “kissing.” The plastic trays clearly indicate they were not ‘forced’ in there or it’s an error but just a production change. Fortunately or unfortunately, there’s not much a clamor for that much attention to detail unlike Hot Wheels … so if wanted to sell them on eBay, someone might pay you a few extra dollars but there won’t be a riot at your listing 🙂 )

  19. CarsMama

CaseStalker – I saw the “hazy” RPM at TRU today. The difference in the eyes was really obvious. Very yellow. Now if I could only find any color Flea & Flik 🙂

  20. Laura Cox

I have got a Chick Hicks unopened with no eyes on, I have resorted to putting it on ebay to see if i can get anything for it…

(METROXING: Make sure you have the words ERROR & or VARIANT in your heading. Good luck).

  22. AJ

I think I may have some Thailand variants for Boost and Sally. The fonts on the under side of the card are different than the China manufactured ones. Are these more valuable or are these “unauthorized versions”? I haven’t seen any on ebay. Thanks

(MET: The int’l ones aren’t of much interest in the US since they’re too hard to make a full set but if you have the US Thailand ones – they are always worth more … do they have the points on the back?)

  23. AJ

I’m not sure what you are referring to when you say “points”? Are they only worth more when left in the cards? I’m new to this but enjoying it so I have a lot to learn. I appreciate your help!!
    AJ

(MET: This is a post I need to update on the cardbacks but the old info is still accurate and will give you a chance to catch up. Generally, they are worth max value only on cards but if you have a full loose collection, that might be of value to someone wanting to start/catch up).

  24. Monica

Speaking of the “points”, did anyone ever win anything with the points? I tried many times, but never won.

(MET: No, they never actually followed through).
